sustaining childcare on the journey from recession to recovery

case studies and good practice in local partnership working

The economic downturn’s impact on childcare businesses so far has been mixed. Parts of the childcare market appear to have held up relatively well in the recession. None the less, many settings reported a drop in attendance, rising cases of bad debt and, as a result, falling income. These are issues for local authorities too, given childcare sufficiency duties and market management responsibilities.

NDNA has produced a publication which shares examples of some of the ways in which NDNA has worked successfully with local authorities to secure early years provision through economic difficulties so that working parents and young children continue to benefit from it.
